Wanted: Volunteer Mentors

Can you remember back to your first job? It’s been a while for some of us, but at one time we all were brand new employees entering a new career. Do you remember how challenging it was to write your first resume? Or perhaps you were most intimidated by the interview process? Most likely you were blessed with caring and experienced people surrounding you with loving guidance. How would you like to be that caring & experienced mentor for one of our Jobs in Community (JIC) graduates?

The Uptown Alliance Volunteer Mentor Program exists to help our JIC graduates cope with these and other life issues as they enter (or re-enter) the workforce. Once they complete our training, we assign a mentor of the same gender. The goal is to have mentors and their assigned graduates contact one another at least once a week for a minimum of one year after the graduation date.

How You Can Help

Be a mentor : mentors are individuals that provide support and encouragement to our JIC graduates.   Mentors must complete an application and training session. As a volunteer mentor, you will have the opportunity to come alongside a JIC graduate as they make this important life transition. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to magnify the love of Christ by helping a graduate go from despair to hope. Training is provided. For more information, contact Steve or Andrea at 576-6983 today!

Construction : participants in our carpentry program will put their skills to use in community service projects across the city. Volunteers would have the opportunity to interact with our JIC class in projects such as painting, minor home repair and landscaping.

Administration : Volunteer opportunities arise in our administrative offices during key times of the year.   We may need help with answering phones, preparing training manuals for students or assisting with preparing for large mailings.   If you feel you have gifts in these areas, please contact our Volunteer Department.

Clothes Closet: Donate your business suits and dresses so our Jobs IN Community (JIC) applicants will have the appropriate clothing to go on job interviews.   Pick-up service is provided.
